How can I find out about your availability to schedule sessions with you?
You can call (763) 230-5080 to request a free, 20-minute phone consultation. If you’re not sure about making a phone call, you can also send me a message using my CONTACT form.
What does a free initial consultation include?
Do you offer in-person sessions or only virtual/telehealth?
I offer virtual therapy sessions through HIPAA-compliant Zoom and have limited openings for in-person sessions at my office in Osseo, Minnesota.
If I don’t live in Minnesota, can I still schedule with you?
Because of licensing rules, I can only do therapy with folks who are in the state where I’m licensed. I am a licensed mental health professional (LMFT) based out of Minnesota. I am also licensed in Michigan and Virginia.
How do I pay? Do you take insurance?
I am an In-Network provider with the following Minnesota-based health insurance plans: HealthPartners, UHC / UBH, UMR, and Medica.
Some clients choose to self-pay for services or use Out-Of-Network benefits through their Minnesota health plan. I offer options to verify Out-Of-Network benefits and submit Out-Of-Network claims (the Superbill) for reimbursement.
What would make someone pay out-of-pocket for therapy instead of use their insurance?
There are a variety of reasons individuals choose to pay out-of-pocket for sessions instead of use health insurance. Here are a few:
- No diagnosis required.. Insurance typically requires a mental health diagnosis and documentation that the therapy is “medically necessary.” Some people prefer to avoid this.
- More choice and flexibility. Not all diagnoses, therapies, or therapy providers are covered by health insurance.
- Discreet therapy, no insurance involvement. For some individuals, it provides peace of mind to know their therapy information is kept separate from their health insurance records.
What’s your cancellation policy?
You may cancel appointments at least 24 hours before your scheduled appointment at no cost. However, I will assess full fees for cancellations with less than 24-hours’ notification.
Therapy Questions
Who do you work with?
At this time, I primarily work with adults and the parents of kids/teens who are struggling with anxiety and OCD-related conditions.
My kid is struggling with anxiety. Do you see kids?
What does the nervous system have to do with anxiety?
Your nervous system plays a significant role in how you experience anxiety. When you’re anxious, your body’s “fight or flight” response is activated by your autonomic nervous system which controls functions like heart rate and breathing. Chronic anxiety can keep your nervous system on high alert, leading to symptoms like a racing heart, muscle tension, and digestive issues.
I incorporate nervous system-informed practices and tools in my work because it is empowering, accessible, and (believe it or not) can be fun!
How long will therapy take?
The length of time depends on a few factors, such as the type of therapy you are interested in and your individual goals, needs, and circumstances.
My approach is to collaborate with you right from the start, including deciding our anticipated length of time for therapy.
As therapy progresses, we will proactively make any necessary adjustments so that we stay on course with a therapy plan that is in alignment with what you hope to achieve.
What are the risks and benefits of doing therapy?
Therapy can be a powerful tool for personal growth and healing, but it’s important to understand both the risks and benefits involved.
Risks. Therapy comes with some risks. At times, you may experience emotional discomfort when exploring difficult topics. You may uncover challenging truths about yourself that can be distressing. Because of personal growth in therapy, it is possible you may sometimes make significant life changes or decisions.
I encourage you to discuss with me any concerns or questions that come up for you about any possible negative side effects of our work together.
Benefits. Therapy offers many benefits such as improved mental health, enhanced self-awareness, better relationships, effective coping strategies, and personal growth. These positive outcomes can lead to a better overall mood, healthier decision-making, and a more fulfilling life.
What is Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP)? What is Rest & Restore Protocol (RRP)?
Safe & Sound Protocol (SSP) and Rest & Restore Protocol (RRP) are therapeutic listening programs designed to enhance and support your current treatments and interventions.
SSP is designed to calm the nervous system and improve social engagement. It works by using specially filtered music to stimulate the middle ear muscles and the autonomic nervous system, helping create a sense of safety and calm, which in turn can enhance social engagement and overall well-being.
RRP helps promote relaxation and recovery from stress. It works by using specially designed sound patterns to synchronize the body’s natural rhythms, fostering deep relaxation and balance in both the body and mind.
Both programs are typically delivered through headphones and are designed to be flexible, allowing you to easily integrate the listening sessions into your daily routine.
As a certified provider of SSP and RRP who specializes in nervous system-informed care, I will help you determine if either of these programs are suitable options that align with your goals and needs. I offer these programs as standalone options or as add-ons to current therapy services.
Please note that SSP and RRP are not covered benefits/services through health insurance plans, but they may be eligible HSA/FSA expenses.
If you are interested in learning about these listening therapy options to complement your healing journey, call to schedule a free 20-minute consultation.
Would you rather...
- Would you rather travel to the past or the future?
- I’d rather travel into the past and as an observer.
- Would you rather have the ability to fly or be invisible?
- I’d take the wings and fly like a bird.
- Would you rather read minds or speak any language fluently?
- Speak any language fluently (reading minds just seems unfair to the other person).
- Would you rather have a pause button or a rewind button for your life?
- I’d take the pause button. Wouldn’t mind having a fast forward button to go with it.
- Would you rather explore space or the deep sea?
- The deep sea, with solid footing on land.
- Would you rather always have to sing instead of speak or dance everywhere you go?
- Dance and dance, everywhere I go.
- Would you rather have a backyard that’s a huge trampoline or a huge swimming pool?
- Make it a huge trampoline.
